Badgers volunteer outdoors to help in the community

Badger’s Off-the-field

By Ben Lehrmann

As the spring season kicks off, the Badgers are busy with a number of different events off the field.  Besides our normal, twice a week practices, many of the players have committed to biweekly workouts at the UW-RecSports Performance Training Center.  With a trainer leading us in Rugby specific workouts, we look forward to building strength and speed that will help our performance as the spring season approaches.

This past week, the club also volunteered to help RecSports shovel and clear several ice rinks on Lake Mendota for their annual Winter Pond Hockey Tournament. To move towards our goal of reaching over 300 hours of community service and volunteering this year, the rugby club also plans to spend a day in February working with the Wisconsin DNR to improve some forested areas around Madison.

On top of improving our game and helping the community, the Badgers are also busy selling raffle tickets to raise money for our spring break trip to Argentina! We will be selling tickets all the way up to spring break in March, and the money raised goes towards both the club as well as towards individual players’ costs for the trip. If there is any interest in buying tickets to help support the club, please contact any current player or coach, and they will be able to point you in the right direction. Prizes for the raffle include Brewer’s tickets, Badger’s sporting events tickets, Badger rugby gear, as well as gift cards to local Madison businesses! We greatly appreciate all of the support we receive from fans, alumni, and family members!
