The Badgers have been hard at work for 3 weeks now. We have started out with mostly skills work and strength/speed work. We had a sprint training session on Bascom Hill which was attended by about 35 players. Since then, we have had 3 training sessions in the McClain Center and 7s at 7 (AM) on Mondays and Wednesdays at the SERF. The players have shown great commitment with numbers ranging from 30-50 players. This is very encouraging given the early/late times during the winter.
Those strong numbers will be needed as the UWRC will be very busy this spring. The two 7s teams have full schedules with the Big Ten 7s Series and Wisconsin 7s Series in April and early May. The Badgers will also look to add some 15s fixtures as the hyper-intelligent, extremely good-looking players known as the tight five will need to improve this spring as well.
After the spring season is over, our top 7s players will be putting in some real work in preparation for the CRC (buy your tickets early!). We have a list of about 28 players interested in competing for 12 roster spots, so competition will get very tight. The guys are extremely eager to improve on last year’s Plate Championship!
