Collegiate Rugby Championships at a Glance

The annual Collegiate Rugby Championship, or CRC’s, is the top tier of college 7’s and is heralded as the world’s largest collegiate rugby festival.  Throughout the two days of the tournament, the nation’s best rugby teams will put on a display of peak athleticism coupled with grueling endurance at the Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia.  24 men’s clubs and 16 women’s teams are invited to attend each year, and in the wake of 7’s rugby returning to the Olympics, national interest in the sport has grown with over 30,000 anticipated fans and broadcasting provided by NBC Sports.

This will be Wisconsin’s fourth tournament appearance, in addition to 2012, 2013, and 2016. Last year the Badgers were able to end a three-year drought by dominating the BigTen 7’s championship (165 points for & only 29 against), which was enough to earn our way back to the CRC’s.  At the tournament, Wisconsin lost their first game to a solid UCLA team. This would serve as a wakeup call, and the Badgers went on to win the next 5 straight games including a hard-fought win over BigTen rival Indiana to claim the Plate Championship.

This year, Wisconsin has received an automatic bid back to the CRC’s. We look to improve upon the success that our club had last year, and know that we have the talent and ability to compete with the best teams in the country.  The Badgers return all but one member of their championship caliber 7’s team, and have a number of skilled newcomers that will make it a fierce battle for every spot on the roster.

As a part of attending the CRC’s, we are required to sell 300 tickets to the event. Check out our personalized ticket link here: you can support the club and get more information about the tournament.
